In a context where the agri-food sector represents a strategic lever for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and the protection of Made in Italy, investing in human capital and generational renewal becomes a priority. Ongoing transformations - technological, productive and cultural - are profoundly reshaping value chains, opening new trajectories ranging from precision agriculture to the use of big data and artificial intelligence, from assisted evolution techniques (TEas) to green biotechnologies, as well as emerging fields such as functional nutrition, soil regeneration, the circular economy, and space agriculture.
Within this scenario, the ability to translate research and scientific knowledge into applicable, sustainable, and competitive solutions becomes central. Fostering project-oriented thinking, entrepreneurial vision, and cross-fertilisation among diverse skills means creating the conditions for innovation capable of generating tangible impact on territories and communities, while simultaneously enhancing local vocations and existing research infrastructures.
It is in response to these needs that the CREA Agrifood Innovation Hub (AIH) was established. The AIH is conceived as a national network of experimentation and innovation support spaces, designed to integrate CREA’s scientific expertise, facilities, laboratories and experimental farms, while promoting dialogue between research, education and business.
The AIH takes shape as an open and collaborative environment, focused on the development of projects at different stages of maturity and on the creation of intergenerational and multidisciplinary teams. Through pathways of experimentation, validation and technology transfer, the Hub aims to support the valorisation of research outcomes, youth entrepreneurship and the emergence of innovative solutions with high transformative potential for the agri-food system.
