To meet the growing demands on Australian crop production amid climate volatility and tightening chemical regulations we must accelerate genetic gain while preserving or expanding genetic diversity available to breeders. This talk outlines integrated platforms developed to shorten breeding cycles and enrich genetic diversity. Highlighted innovations include the accelerated single seed descent (aSSD) platform, manipulation of light spectra to compress flowering time, and novel approaches to hybridisation and rapid introgression from wild relatives. Case studies in pulses illustrate how these tools are unlocking genetic potential and delivering breeding outcomes at scale, with relevance across other crops and environments.
