The CREA-ZA Research Centre for Animal husbandry and Aquaculture in Lodi and the ILS The International Legume Society organize the eighth webinar held by theDr. Valerio Hoyos-Villegas (Mc Gill University, Canada).

ILS will host a series of free monthly webinars on topics related to legume breeding and improvement.

Dr. Valerio Hoyos-Villegas of McGill University will present a lecture titled "What is keeping consumers from eating more beans and pulses? Scientific and other insights from GS applied to beans." This presentation will explore the factors influencing consumer reluctance to incorporate more beans and pulses into their diets. Dr. Hoyos-Villegas will share scientific findings and insights from genomic selection (GS) research applied to beans, discussing how these advancements can address consumer concerns and promote greater consumption of these nutritious legumes.

Dr. Hoyos-Villegas leads the pulse breeding and genetics research program at McGill University, which adopts a value chain approach to meet the specific needs of stakeholders, including consumers. His research focuses on developing crop cultivars with traits that benefit all stakeholders, integrating input from growers, marketers, seed producers, processors, and consumers. Central to this approach is a streamlined breeding and testing pipeline, which efficiently navigates the complex genetics associated with desired traits.

The webinars will use the Microsoft Teams platform and will be conducted by researcher Nelson Nazzicari and are made possible thanks to CREA (Italian Council for Agricultural Research and Analysis of Agricultural Economics).
