Biochemistry and Aerobic Microbiology Laboratory (Monterotondo)

The laboratory deals with the isolation, growth, identification, characterization and maintenance in the collection of non-pathogenic microorganisms isolated from excreta, wounds and animal products. The isolates are used to study the mechanisms of action and the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of complex mixtures of secondary metabolites extracted from plants. The extracts are also evaluated against zoonotic pathogen vectors and as preservatives of food intended for human consumption. Therefore, the laboratory is equipped with instruments for microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry (STERISTEAM CDL autoclave, VWR INCU-Line thermostats, LIEBHERR refrigerators, LIEBHERR freezers, chemical hood ASEM FUME CABINETS, biohazard hood TOPSAFE 1.2 BIOAIREGAR INSTRUMENT, ultracentrifuge 16R, THERMO SCIENTIFIC ARKTIK thermal cycler, VWR CONSORT horizontal and vertical electrophoresis apparatus for nucleic acids and proteins) and small benchtop instrumentation.
