Laboratory of ‘in vitro’ cultures and plant biotechnologies, Lodi

The laboratory applies propagation techniques (micropropagation, regeneration, somatic embryogenesis) in forage species for the purpose of cultivation/multiplication and in vitro conservation of plants, in vitro selection and applications in the field of genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is used for the introduction of useful traits into forage species and for the functional characterization of genes and / or promoters involved in the biosynthetic pathway of secondary metabolites. The physiological and molecular mechanisms involved in the response of forage plants to abiotic stresses are studied using in vitro cultures as a model system.
