Cell Biology and Flow Cytometry Unit (Monterotondo)

The Unit comprises 2 instruments: a flow cytometer analyser and a cell sorter. The flow cytometry is the technology of choice to count cells and simultaneously analyze several parameters with high sensitivity in a very short period of time allowing the assessment of the immune system, through the characterization of blood and milk leukocyte subsets and their specific activation status.

The flow cytometer analyser (cytoflex) is equipped with 3 lasers and 8 fluorescent channels and detects simultaneously up to 10 parameters (either physical, molecular or biological) on a high number of cells per seconds.

The cell sorter (moflo XDP Cell Sorter) is equipped with 2 lasers and 6 fluorescent channels and allows the physically separation of the single cells from a complex mixture of cells. The flow cytometry applications available in our laboratory are the following: immunophenotyping, cell counting, cell viability, apoptosis, cell proliferation, cytokines detection, and cell sorting.

The cell biology laboratory is equipped with: cabinet biohazard and CO2 incubator to assesses primary cell cultures for “in vitro” experiments; ELISA analyzer to evaluate the serological markers of inflammatory and oxidative status.
