Experimental piggeries (Modena Unit)

The facility has 2 experimental piggeries:

• for fattening (96 boxes with 5 places, for a total of 480 head units).

• for reproduction (40 farrowing and weaning cages) and fattening (12 boxes with 12 places, for a total of 144 head units).

The latter is ventilated and structured in such a way as to allow gas sampling for evaluation (with replicas) of greenhouse gas emissions. The fattening boxes are equipped with an individual pit for collecting sewage. In addition to feeding tests, it is possible to carry out castration tests, tail docking, evaluation of additives and supplements to safeguard the health of the piglets.
