EUFORGEN - European Forest Genetic Resources Programme
Description
What's this
The Research Centre for Forestry and Wood is the National coordinator and a component of the steering committee of EUFORGEN - European Forest Genetic Resources Programme. EUFORGEN is a Programme of international cooperation, coordinated by EFI European Forest Institute, that promotes the conservation and the sustainable use of forest genetic resources in Europe, as an integral part of the sustainable forest management. Experts of Member States meet to exchange information and experiences, analyze politics and practices and develop strategies tools and methods based on science, to improve the management of forest genetic resources. EUFORGEN is funded by the Member States and research programmes.
Its activities are developed in working groups (WG). In the WG Development of a decision support tool for GCU (Genetic Conservation Units) a decision support tool was developed to help in identifying and managing forest tree populations under threats and needing conservation actions.
The WG Forest reproductive material guidelines had the goal to define guidelines about the production and the use of forest reproductive materials.
In the WG Genetic diversity indicators reviewed the indicator 4.6 on genetic resources of the pan‐European Criteria and Indicators for sustainable forest management and proposed options for its improvement.
