From wood wisdom to wood values and beyond: a Monograph publication on the impact of EU collaboration in the forest‑based sector
ERA‑Net Cofund ForestValue, -funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 773324 and actively running from 1 October 2017 to 31 March 2023- lays its foundation on previous transnational collaborations within the European Research Area, ERA.
The main activity of the project is the implementation of two joint transnational calls to co-fund research and innovation in the forest-based sector.
The monograph “From wood wisdom to wood values and beyond”, one of the output of ForestValue recently published, aims to show how the past and current research programmes contribute to increased innovation and competitiveness of the European forest‑based sector.
The publication brings together information already published in various online sources, largely based on the resources of the individual ERA‑Net projects (running under Framework Programmes FP6, FP7 and FP8), namely WoodWisdom‑Net, WoodWisdom‑Net2, WoodWisdom‑Net+, Foresterra, Sumforest, ForestValue, Eufore, and ForestValue2, and on publicly available sources from ERA‑LEARN, CORDIS and Forest‑Based Sector Technology Platform.
It is an interesting overview of all the initiatives carried out: each project is analysed in terms of contents, participants, scoping activities, projects funded, and results achieved.
The Research Centre for Agricultural Policies and Bioeconomy has participated in some of these initiatives and collaborates in the Standing Committee on Agricultural Research Strategic Working Group on Forests and Forestry Research and Innovation (SCAR FOREST) supporting the activity of MASAF. Actually, three CREA research centres (Agricultural Policies and Bioeconomy, Forestry and Wood and Agriculture and Environment) are involved in ForestValue2 project (coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Finland), started at the beginning of 2023, in continuity with the previous ForestValue and aiming at implementing at least one joint call for RDI proposals dedicated to forest-based sector.
