What it is

Dr. CONCETTA LICCIARDELLO is a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics (SIGA) for the two-year period 2017-2019, as a participant in the Research Commission. The SIGA is a non-profit scientific association, with legal and fiscal headquarters in Via Università 100, 80055 Portici (NA) (although any changes of address of the headquarters do not involve procedures to amend the Statute). The SIGA aims to promote and enhance studies in the field of Agricultural Genetics, Genomics, Genetic Improvement and Biotechnology of organisms of agricultural interest, promoting cooperation between interested parties, whether individuals or public or private, Italian or foreign. It carries out activities in the field of scientific research, education and training, in the field of protection and enhancement of the environment, in the promotion of the culture of genetics and its applications. 

The Board of Directors is the collegial body that manages the administration and all the activities of SIGA. The Board of Directors is composed of a President, a Vice-President, six Councillors and a Secretary, elected according to the Regulation. Members in good standing joining SIGA are eligible for election to the corporate bodies. The proclamation of the result of the votes at the meeting is issued by the President of the electoral seat. The members of the Board of Directors remain in office for two years. At the end of the President's term of office, the Vice-president takes office for the next two years. The six Directors cannot be re-elected for the following two years. 

What is it for

Dr. Licciardello is one of the members of the Research Commission which has the objective to assist the Board of Directors of SIGA on: the opportunity to set up Work/Study Groups; the formulation of proposals regarding the research evaluation system; the promotion of a scientifically rigorous research, generating knowledge advances to contribute to the development of our country and being relevant to stakeholders (companies, institutions, territory); the screening of the works participating in all categories of SIGA Awards (SIGA Award for Plant Genetics / Plant Breeding; Conference Awards (poster)). Finally, the Board of Directors assumes the function of Scientific Council of the Annual SIGA Conference. 

In addition, the functional tasks within the Research Commission that Dr. Licciardello is interested in are the Working Group on Genetic Resources and Relations with CREA.
