What it is

CREA Olivicoltura, Frutticoltura e Agrumicoltura (OFA), in quality of Preservation Centre for Pre-multiplication (CCP) and Pre-multiplication Centre – first phase (CP1) for strawberry plant material, acknowledged in the frame of the National Service for Voluntary Certification with Ministerial Decree 2 February 2021, carries out in the frame of the process of National Strawberry Certification the following service activities: -maintenance in healthy conditions in its own appropriate facilities (screen houses) of many strawberry varieties included in the process of strawberry genetic-sanitary national certification; - production of “pre-base” and “base” plant material, multiplied in screen house and also through micropropagation; - check for genetic correspondence of the plant material included in the national certification process, preserved and produced either in the Preservation Centre for Pre-multiplication or in the pre-multiplication ones (firt and second phase). The check is carried out in a specific field for genetic checks with plants samples coming from all Centres and nurseries involved in the Italian Certification process. For those checks in some case also molecular tecniques (fingerprinting) are used.

Service delivery system

The Certification activities are carried out by CREA-OFA exclusively following written request by third parties and a compensation is calculated on the basis of the supplied service (number of varieties to preserve, number of mother plants to produce, etc.) following the signing of specific agreements.
