Physiological analysis and phenotyping
Physiological analysis and phenotyping
The Centre has instruments and facilities for physiological analysis and for the accurate measurement of growth descriptors and quality parameters, in detail:
- instruments for the analysis of photosynthetic activity, chlorophyll fluorescence and spectral reflectance both in controlled environments and in the open field;
- phytotrons, greenhouses and two experimental farms for growth and phenotyping of small grain cereals and horticultural crop under real growing conditions;
- automatic micro-malting system, skills and instrumentation for the determination of the quality parameters of the malt (Fiorenzuola headquarters);
- Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE, Fiorenzuola headquarters): a system for studying the effect of increased atmospheric CO2 concentration on plant growth and yield. FACE technology allows to increase the CO2 content in the atmosphere above an experimental area in total absence of containment barriers and therefore allows studies in open field conditions.
